What does bunch do to try reduce its footprint in the world?

Bunch is owner operated by myself - Alicia Erceg. I strive to retain a sustainable approach to my floristry practice and aim to be transparent with the process. I am well aware that nothing is really that sustainable when you are selling a product, so I am not here to greenwash. Being in the business of flowers means having an inherent adoration for the natural world. These are some of the ways I honour Mother Nature.

Commitment to Sustainability

MADE TO ORDER - making to order allows me to buy for what I know I need, resulting in less wasted product.

FLORISTS CHOICE - you may notice I don’t have images that you pick and buy from. This way I buy what is in season, easily accessible to me, rather than ordering to fill a particular picture. Flowers change week to week with availability and seasons. I’m here to collaborate with you and the bunch you envision.

SUPPORTING SMALLER GROWERS - over the last few years I have developed relationships with small flower growers in Canterbury. It can take time visiting the farm to check what is/ will be growing, but these relationships are valuable and important to understand the process on their end. I am more understanding of the product and the time and labour that goes into it.

WASTE - I seperate all my waste - Greens, Soft Plastics (90% of flowers from the flower market come wrapped in plastic) and Recyclables. Many florists don’t spend the time doing this, but it’s a pretty easy thing to ensure everything gets to where it needs to go when creating waste.

NO CHILLER - I choose not to have a chiller as this is a big source of energy that I can do without when applying my pre ordering method. All my flowers have a turn around of the same day I get them from the market or grower, they go out in my orders. For weddings I hold them for 1 or 2 days to let them open so they are at their maximum potential for their big day.

FLOWER WRAP - I use uncoated, plain paper for my wrapping. This is easily recycled or composted because it has no plastic coating. Single use plastic in the floristry industry is prolific and something I can not avoid at times when receiving product. I use cellophane wrap too - which I believe is biodegradable.

NO FLORAL FOAM - I have cut floral foam from my practice. In finding alternatives I appreciate that my clients support the extra small cost of an environmentally friendlier alternative.
